Schulenburg, Texas is a friendly, vibrant community and the perfect stopping point during that trip from Houston to San Antonio on I-10 or when you travel State Highway 77, the shortest route north or to the Texas Valley. Thanks to a railroad depot that was built in 1873, Schulenburg was quickly put on the map. Since then, the population has more than doubled and the town is now surrounded by the many open fields within Fayette County where you can easily spot cattle and wildflowers.
Being the home of the Shorthorns, Schulenburg has a public school system, a Catholic elementary school and a Blinn College campus. Education is a top priority in this community, especially since Schulenburg means “school town” in German.
While visiting Schulenburg, not only will you find yourself stopping to get a homemade kolache or some fresh pecans, but you will also find that the Painted Churches are known to be the jewels of this area. Schulenburg also offers a strong spirit of fellowship and its festivals are renowned. The annual Schulenburg Sausagefest held each spring highlights the rich Czech and German heritage with a sausage cook-off and live polka music. Along with that, the annual Schulenburg Festival is held on the first weekend of August and features three fun-filled days of family entertainment.
Schulenburg is also home to many specialty shops along with larger manufacturing plants that ship their products worldwide. The excellent economic climate helps provide and contribute to our high quality of life. From the small-town atmosphere with modern, urban conveniences to rural beauty, one cannot find a better location in Texas. Schulenburg is a great place to live, raise a family, work, and do business.
The local community invites you and welcomes you to Schulenburg and we hope that you enjoy your memorable experience.
